Indian Railways invites tenders for major warehouse network near Kashmir train stations
Private developers are being sought to build and run 25-year lease facilities near Anantnag and Pampore stations to speed up farm produce logistics.

Northern Railway has invited tenders from private developers to build and operate two new warehouse complexes near Anantnag and Pampore railway stations in the Kashmir Valley. The project, launched under the Cargo Related Facility policy, is designed to boost logistics infrastructure, streamline freight transit, and give local producers faster access to major markets across India.
According to official details published on the Indian Railways E-Procurement System portal, the sites will be leased to private operators for 25 years. By establishing modern storage facilities adjacent to train stations, the railway administration aims to integrate farm collection points directly with the national rail freight network.
Boosting Kashmir produce and trade
The move provides essential support to Kashmir's horticulture and commercial trade, particularly apple growers and saffron producers who depend on efficient, timely transport for perishable crops. Situated next to key rail links, the new storage points will reduce loading expenses, cut road transit times between orchards and rail heads, and minimise post-harvest losses.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for the Jammu division, Uchit Singhal, said the initiative would strengthen freight transport, upgrade storage for perishable agricultural produce, and generate local job opportunities as commercial logistics expand across the region.
Expanding regional supply chains
The developments in Anantnag and Pampore follow a tender issued on 13 October for a strategic warehouse facility at Bari Brahmana on the outskirts of Jammu. Together, the three stations form the backbone of a major logistics upgrade across Jammu and Kashmir.
| Station location | Region | Operating model | Lease duration || Bari Brahmana | Jammu outskirts | Cargo Related Facility policy | 25 years || Anantnag | Kashmir Valley | Cargo Related Facility policy | 25 years || Pampore | Kashmir Valley | Cargo Related Facility policy | 25 years |
By leveraging private sector investment to modernise railway freight operations, Indian Railways is continuing a broader drive to build durable infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, integrating regional trade smoothly into the wider national economy.
