Reliance Jio IPO opens on October 21 with ₹2,500 crore shareholder quota
India's largest public issue offers existing Reliance Industries investors dual application options to boost allotment chances.

Reliance Jio Platforms opens its ₹30,213 crore initial public offering on October 21, marking the largest equity market listing in Indian history and strengthening the foundation of the nation's digital economy.
The public offering consists entirely of 27 crore fresh equity shares priced between ₹1,065 and ₹1,119 apiece, valuing the digital services arm of Reliance Industries at up to ₹10.3 lakh crore. Up to ₹27,500 crore of the net proceeds will be utilised to prepay or repay existing borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm, de-leveraging the balance sheet and ensuring financial stability for future technology deployment.
How RIL shareholders can maximize allotment chances
To reward existing investors, Jio Platforms has created a dedicated ₹2,500 crore shareholder quota. Individual investors and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who held at least one share of Reliance Industries as of the cutoff date on October 14 qualify for this separate pool.
Eligible shareholders enjoy a distinct bidding advantage: they can submit two separate applications under the same Permanent Account Number (PAN) without risk of rejection. An investor can bid for up to ₹2 lakh under the shareholder reservation and simultaneously apply for up to ₹2 lakh under the regular retail category, accessing two independent allotment buckets.
Unlike the retail segment, where heavily oversubscribed issues allocate shares via a lucky draw, the shareholder reservation follows a proportionate allotment mechanism subject to minimum lot sizes. Jio's minimum lot size is 12 shares, requiring ₹13,428 at the upper price band. Shareholders can apply for up to 14 lots, comprising 168 shares for ₹1.87 lakh.
Financial performance and market demand
Ahead of the retail launch, institutional investor demand reached record levels. Jio's anchor book attracted bids worth nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore against an allocation of about ₹8,110 crore. In the grey market, shares commanded an unofficial premium of around ₹245 to ₹247, indicating strong market confidence.
Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal Wealth Management recommended a 'Subscribe' rating for listing gains and long-term value, citing Jio's digital connectivity scale and competitive valuation relative to sector peers.
