Suspected militants targeted the village of Chassad in Manipur's Kamjong district on Saturday afternoon, leaving one man dead and four others injured. Security forces immediately reinforced the area near the India-Myanmar border to maintain stability and search for the attackers.

The firing broke out around 2:30 pm while a group of residents was working to repair local power lines in the village. Paramilitary troops from the Assam Rifles deployed rapidly to the scene, rescuing four injured village representatives and transporting them to a military medical facility for urgent care. Police confirmed that 35-year-old Seikhohao Haokip died of his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The state government has maintained an active outreach effort to foster calm across all regions. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh recently urged leaders and civil society organisations representing Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities to prioritise peaceful dialogue and cooperation. Security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further friction.
