CRPF jawan killed and five injured as lorry hits vehicles in Mulugu
A speeding truck loaded with sand rammed a security vehicle and a car on National Highway 163 near the Pasra Forest Check Post.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and five other people were injured on Thursday morning when a speeding, sand-laden lorry crashed into two vehicles on National Highway 163 in Telangana’s Mulugu district.
The collision occurred around 10:00 am near the Pasra Forest Check Post in the Govindaraopet mandal. Muguram Ramakanth, a 36-year-old jawan with the CRPF’s 39th Battalion, died at the scene. He was a resident of Karimnagar district and was stationed in Wazeedu mandal.
How the collision occurred
According to Mulugu Superintendent of Police Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, the lorry lost control on the Pasra–Tadvai stretch of the highway. It first collided with a medium goods vehicle—a DCM van—carrying CRPF personnel who were travelling from Eturunagaram towards Mulugu.
The force of the impact killed Ramakanth instantly. Three other jawans in the vehicle, identified as Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash, and Ram Jan Prasad, sustained injuries.
After hitting the security vehicle, the lorry crashed into a car carrying two local government employees. The victims in the car, Sd Sofiya, a junior assistant, and P Ramesh, a typist, work at the Govindaraopet Mandal Parishad Development Office and were on their way to work.
Local police officials gave differing accounts of the car’s direction. Tadvai Sub-Inspector K. Jagadish said the lorry struck a car travelling in the opposite direction, while Superintendent Kekan stated the car was travelling directly behind the CRPF vehicle.
Rescue operations and traffic delays
The collision left the government employees trapped inside the wreckage of their car. Passing motorists and local residents gathered at the site to assist before emergency services arrived.
Sub-Inspector Jagadish said his team used an earth mover to pull the damaged vehicles apart and clear the highway, which had been blocked by a traffic jam stretching over two kilometres.
The injured jawans and civilian workers were taken to MGM Hospital in Warangal for treatment. Officials confirmed that both government employees in the car are out of danger. Ramakanth’s body was taken to the Mulugu Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that caused the lorry driver to lose control.
