Five members of a family, including three young children, were found dead at their home in Greater Noida's Nagla Shri Padam village on Saturday morning, in what police suspect may be a severe case of food poisoning.

The deceased have been identified as 37-year-old Mahesh, his 35-year-old wife Lalita, and their three children aged between three and 11. Police received information about the incident on Saturday morning after relatives and neighbours discovered the family unresponsive in their beds.

According to local residents and Mahesh's mother, the family had eaten noodles for dinner on Friday night before going to sleep. Emergency responders, senior police officers, forensic specialists, and officials from the local food safety department were immediately deployed to the scene in Rabupura to secure evidence and conduct a detailed inquiry.

What investigators found at the scene

When officers entered the residence, all five individuals were lying on their beds in positions suggesting they had fallen asleep normally after dinner. Local reports indicated some frothing at the mouth, though authorities cautioned that scientific tests are required before confirming the role of toxic substances or specific food contaminants.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Rajeev Kumar Sisodiya stated that officers found the family in their resting positions and immediately secured the premises. A specialised forensic team alongside a field unit collected sample materials from the kitchen and surrounding premises to test for toxic contaminants or food spoilage.

Post-mortem and food safety investigation

The bodies have been sent for formal post-mortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death. Officials from the food safety department are testing remaining food items and ingredients recovered from the household.

Police said inquest proceedings are under way, and formal legal action will proceed once the autopsy and laboratory reports are finalised. As of Saturday afternoon, no formal criminal case had been registered pending the medical findings.
