DSEK revises school timings across Kashmir division from 15 October

Government and recognised private schools throughout the Kashmir division will operate under revised daily hours starting 15 October 2026, following a formal directive issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.

The updated schedule aligns academic routines with seasonal weather shifts across the valley, ensuring students and teaching staff avoid early morning cold while keeping instructional hours intact. The adjustment reflects administrative responsiveness to seasonal conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, maintaining continuity across the school network.

Under Order No. 410-DSEK of 2026, issued on 14 October by the Director of School Education Kashmir, educational institutions are split into two categories based on municipal boundaries.

New school timings across Kashmir

Schools situated inside Srinagar municipal limits will function from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. Institutions located beyond the municipal borders of Srinagar, alongside schools in all other districts of the Kashmir province, will run from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.

The Directorate emphasised that the directive applies uniformly across the Kashmir division to both government-run schools and recognised private institutions. Educational authorities stated that the instructions must be implemented strictly by all heads of institutions without deviation.

Implementation and district oversight

To ensure consistent adherence across the valley, copies of the notification have been sent to the Administrative Department of School Education, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, respective Deputy Commissioners, and Chief Education Officers across all districts.

Administrative machinery across Kashmir routinely adjusts academic timing ahead of late autumn and winter to protect student health and streamline morning commutes as temperatures drop. The Director of Information has been asked to issue wide public notifications through print and electronic platforms to ensure parents, transport operators, and students are prepared for the change.

The revised timings remain binding from 15 October 2026 until further official orders are issued by the Directorate.
