VTU signs MoU with Vishwabharat Skill Institute

On Thursday, 15 October 2026, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) sealed a memorandum of understanding with Vishwabharat Skill Institute (VBSI) at the university’s regional office in Bengaluru. The signing was attended by VTU Vice‑Chancellor Prof S Vidyashankar and a delegation led by F.R. Singhvi, Director of VBSI.

What the agreement covers

The MoU sets out a three‑year programme to provide hands‑on technical training to 3,000 engineering students across VTU’s affiliated colleges. More than 100 industry experts have volunteered to guide the participants, offering real‑world project exposure, workshops and on‑site visits. VBSI has also pledged to facilitate employment opportunities for students who successfully complete the up‑skilling modules.

Aligning education with industry demands

Prof Vidyashankar explained that the partnership is designed “to provide students training in line with industry requirements”. By embedding practical skill‑sets within the academic calendar, VTU aims to improve graduate employability and support the government’s National Skill Development Mission, which targets a skilled workforce capable of powering India’s manufacturing and technology ambitions.

Benefits for students and the region

For the students, the programme promises:

  • Direct mentorship from seasoned professionals across sectors such as automotive, electronics and renewable energy.
  • Access to state‑of‑the‑art labs and simulated production environments set up by VBSI.
  • A clear pathway to placement in partner firms, many of which have pledged to hire graduates who meet the skill benchmarks.

Karnataka’s education ecosystem, already recognised for its strong engineering base, stands to gain from the infusion of industry‑led training. The collaboration also signals a broader trend of universities partnering with skill‑focused institutes to keep curricula responsive to market shifts.

Looking ahead

The MoU outlines quarterly review meetings to assess progress, adjust training modules and ensure that the skill outcomes remain relevant. Both VTU and VBSI have committed to publishing annual impact reports, detailing the number of students placed, the sectors that absorb them and the feedback from industry mentors.

By tying academic learning to tangible employment pathways, the partnership underscores the government’s emphasis on skill‑centric growth and showcases how public‑private cooperation can drive national development goals.
