Polavaram project passes major international expert review with high quality rating
A panel of global engineering specialists endorsed construction quality and technology deployment at the crucial Earth-Cum-Rock Fill dam.

International panel approves Polavaram project progress
A team of international engineering experts has endorsed the construction standards and quality-control protocols at the landmark Polavaram multi-purpose project, concluding a thorough four-day review at the dam site in Andhra Pradesh.
The review panel, consisting of global experts Richard Donnelly, Gianfranco De Cicco, Sean Hinchberger, and David Paul, conducted field inspections and technical evaluations between 14 October and 17 October 2026. Their detailed assessment focused primarily on the Earth-Cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam, covering key structural points at Gaps 1 and 2 as well as the site's quality-control laboratories.
Following 40 hours of intensive evaluation, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the execution of construction works, testing procedures, and the modern technology integrated into the dam structures.
| Assessment activity | Time spent | Primary focus |
|---|---|---|
| Technical discussions | 27 hours | Engineering design, data analysis, and documentation |
| Field visits & testing | 13 hours | ECRF dam Gaps 1 and 2, testing labs, and structures |
| Total review duration | Four days | Quality control and technology application |
Collaborative push for national infrastructure
At a concluding briefing chaired by Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Vohra, the experts advised project officials to maintain the current momentum of quality assurance. They recommended that engineers continue systematic testing and ensure every result is documented as construction progresses.
The review brought together key central and state bodies, illustrating the coordinated drive behind India's flagship infrastructure initiatives. Officials from the Central Water Resources Department, the State Water Resources Department led by Engineer-in-Chief K. Narasimha Murthy, scientists from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station, and representatives from WAPCOS and executing agency Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) participated in the inspections.
The positive verdict provides momentum for the Polavaram project, a pivotal national infrastructure asset designed to deliver water security, flood management, and agricultural growth across the region.
