Public health milestone in Telangana

Five government hospitals in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district have secured six Kayakalp awards for 2025-26, achieving a 100 per cent success rate in quality evaluations and winning Rs 10 lakh in total prize money.

The awards recognize major improvements in hygiene, infection control, biomedical waste management, and patient care standards across healthcare facilities serving predominantly tribal communities.

Award distribution across facilities

The Community Health Centre at Palvancha won top honors by receiving the State-Level Eco-Friendly Award, which carries a Rs 5 lakh prize, alongside a Commendation Award. Four Area Hospitals across the district also earned state recognition.

Driving standards in public healthcare

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare instituted the Kayakalp Awards in 2015 to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention across public healthcare institutions nationwide. Facilities are evaluated on environmental sustainability, sanitation, waste disposal, and overall service delivery.

District Coordinator of Hospital Services Dr G. Ravi Babu said targeted operational planning helped expand awards coverage across the district. Administrative backing from former Collector Jithesh V. Patil, Collector Ankit, and ITDA Project Officer B. Rahul provided essential guidance, allowing medical staff to elevate service standards while new facility infrastructure remains under development.
