Delhi Police have registered at least three FIRs and initiated legal proceedings against key organisers following an unauthorised protest march across central Delhi, citing the need to ensure public order and prevent traffic disruptions in high-security zones.

The cases, filed at Connaught Place and Mandi House police stations, invoke Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disobeying lawful orders, along with provisions regarding acts done with common intention. Police officials noted that demonstrators defied active prohibitory orders, marched down central thoroughfares around Connaught Place, and jumped security barricades.

To identify participants who disrupted traffic along the inner circle, investigators are examining video footage from CCTV networks and social media platforms. In addition, Delhi Police released video footage showing an assault on a female paramilitary constable during a scuffle near Palika Bazaar, confirming that further legal measures will be taken against those involved in physical altercations.

Action taken by authorities

Several prominent individuals were detained during and after the demonstration as law enforcement agencies moved to prevent further escalations in public places.

Abhijeet Dipke was released on Saturday evening after being produced before a Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg police station, where he signed a bond undertaking to maintain peace for one year. Police stated that Dipke's attempt to join the march constituted a breach of an earlier peace bond signed on October 11.

Meanwhile, the legal team for the Cockroach Janta Party has petitioned the Special Executive Magistrate for the release of co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Both were sent to Tihar Jail for five days on Wednesday after breaching peace undertakings and entering Jantar Mantar, which was recently removed from the list of designated protest venues.

Under designated administrative guidelines issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar on October 11, public demonstrations in the capital are strictly restricted to designated areas, including Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground, in order to maintain urban traffic flows and civic peace.
