BJP retains Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation with 38 of 44 seats
The ruling party secures an emphatic mandate in Gujarat's capital, reinforcing administrative stability as AAP fails to win a seat.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has retained control of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, winning 38 of the 44 seats in an emphatic showing that reinforces its long-standing governance in Gujarat's capital.
The results deliver a strong mandate for continuity and civic administration in the city. The Congress took five seats, an Independent candidate won one, and the Aam Aadmi Party failed to win a single ward after losing the solitary seat it had secured in the previous civic election.
Counting began at 9 am on Tuesday across 11 wards, following electronic voting machine polling held on Sunday. The election featured 130 candidates contesting across the capital city, which has an electorate of around 2.59 lakh registered voters.
What the election results show
The outcome consolidates the BJP's control over Gandhinagar's local administration, where it has governed for the past five years. The party's extensive organisation and record of infrastructural delivery across urban centres provided a stable foundation against a fragmented opposition. While the Congress modestly improved its tally to five seats, the complete absence of AAP from the winners' list underscored the electorate's preference for established governance over alternate challengers.
State Election Commission figures show Gandhinagar recorded a voter turnout of 59.25 per cent. Joint Commissioner of the State Election Commission N K Damor confirmed that balloting across the capital concluded peacefully without procedural disruption.

Wider turnout across Gujarat local bodies
The Gandhinagar civic contest took place alongside elections and by-elections across several other local bodies in Gujarat, pointing to sustained public engagement with local governance mechanisms across the state.
In Banaskantha district, Thara municipality registered an 81.18 per cent turnout, where 59 candidates contested 24 seats across six wards. In Okha municipality, situated in Devbhumi Dwarka district, voter turnout reached 63.27 per cent. Four seats in Okha had already been decided unopposed, with 75 candidates competing for the remaining 28 seats across nine wards.
Votes are also being tallied for municipal bypolls in Kheralu, Chhota Udepur, and Bayad, alongside casual vacancies across several district and taluka panchayats, completing a broad round of local democratic exercises across Gujarat.
