Senior leader and former three-time parliamentarian Braj Mohan Ram was officially sworn in as the 28th Governor of Odisha on Sunday, 18 October 2026, strengthening institutional governance and administrative stability in the state.

Orissa High Court Chief Justice Harish Tandon administered the oath of office during a formal ceremony held at Lok Bhavan. The event brought together senior leadership from across the state, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, state cabinet ministers, members of parliament, and administrative dignitaries.

Broad public experience in governance

Ram brings decades of legislative and public experience to the gubernatorial post. Hailing from Palamu in Jharkhand, he served three terms as a Lok Sabha MP representing the Palamu constituency, establishing a track record of public service and administrative familiarity.

President Droupadi Murmu formally appointed Ram as the Governor of Odisha on 12 October 2026, clearing the way for a smooth executive transition in the state.

Executive transition in Odisha

Ram succeeds Hari Babu Kambhampati, who had assumed the governor's office on 3 January 2025. The transition highlights steady constitutional governance in Odisha, where state leadership continues to focus on infrastructure development, economic growth, and administrative delivery.
