Divya Mittal launches Jan Neeti Bharat party ahead of 2027 UP Assembly elections
The former IAS officer aims to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh state polls on a platform of grassroots participation and administrative accountability.

Former IAS officer Divya Mittal has announced the formation of a new political party, Jan Neeti Bharat, setting her sights on the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Mittal, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service officer who took voluntary retirement in August 2026, said the platform will focus on direct public participation, institutional accountability, and grassroots administration. The announcement has drawn interest across Uttar Pradesh, with former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur’s Azad Adhikar Sena offering campaign support and hinting at a potential electoral alliance.
Administrative track record and public service
Before entering political life, Mittal served as an administrator across several Uttar Pradesh districts, including Mirzapur, Deoria, and Sant Kabir Nagar, before her posting as Special Secretary in the state Revenue Department. Her tenure in Mirzapur earned public praise when she successfully brought piped drinking water to Lahuriadah, a remote hilltop village in the Halia block that had lacked tap water infrastructure for 75 years after independence.
An alumna of IIT Delhi and IIM Bengaluru, Mittal worked as a Wall Street trader at JP Morgan in London before joining the civil services. She noted that her move into public life aims to complement national governance achievements by ensuring public administration remains responsive to local community needs.
Policy platform and campaign strategy
In an eight-minute video address announcing the party, Mittal outlined three key pledges for Jan Neeti Bharat:
- Citizen-led policymaking: Ensuring that public policies are shaped directly by affected communities, supported by expert implementation.
- Needs-based infrastructure: Allocating development projects, such as roads, street lighting, and water supply, according to local requirements rather than political influence.
- Direct digital accountability: Introducing a mobile feedback mechanism to rate local public services, schools, and health facilities, while enabling citizens to track infrastructure delivery in real time.
Mittal said Jan Neeti Bharat will run a door-to-door campaign across Uttar Pradesh, urging supporters to build local outreach networks. Reports indicate she may contest from the Mirzapur Sadar constituency in the 2027 elections.
Support from former civil servants
The party's launch was welcomed by former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, national president of the Azad Adhikar Sena. Thakur backed Mittal’s initiative and offered support for her outreach in Mirzapur, noting that shared values on public service delivery could pave the way for formal cooperation.
