What happened in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that the expansion and reshuffle of his council of ministers will take place within the first two to three days of next week.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Saturday, 24 October, Abdullah confirmed that the list of ministers has been prepared following detailed consultations with National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah.

The announcement follows an official meeting between Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhawan in Srinagar on Saturday morning. During the meeting, which covered key administrative matters, the Chief Minister requested the Lieutenant Governor to fix a precise time early next week for the swearing-in ceremony and portfolio reassignments.

Cabinet list finalised and lobbying discouraged

The Chief Minister urged lawmakers and party colleagues to halt all efforts to lobby for ministerial berths, emphasizing that the decision-making process is complete.

"After consultations with Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahib, the list has been finalised. There is no need to knock on Farooq Sahib's door, my door, or anyone else's door. The decision of who will become a minister is not pending; it has already been made," Abdullah told reporters.

Addressing the flurry of representations from political hopefuls, the Chief Minister revealed that he had been inundated with calls and lengthy messaging campaigns. He asked colleagues to show patience and refrain from contacting party leadership.

"Please stop sending WhatsApp messages. I am receiving endless, lengthy messages... entire books are being written, sending full biodatas as if I don't know who they are! I already know them and their work," he said, adding that whatever is destined to happen will take place in the next two to three days.

Smooth governance and institutional coordination

The upcoming cabinet reorganization reflects ongoing efforts to ensure streamlined administration and effective governance across Jammu and Kashmir. Institutional coordination between the Chief Minister's office and Raj Bhavan remains focused on administrative momentum and regional stability.

In addition to discussing the cabinet restructuring, Abdullah noted that he visited Lok Bhawan to inquire about Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's health following a brief period of illness and to consult him on administrative affairs.

With the list finalised, the administration is prepared to conduct the oath-taking once Lieutenant Governor Sinha confirms the official schedule in the coming days.
