Jamia Millia Islamia FIR booked against Congress MPs over campus trespassing allegation
Delhi Police have registered a case against Congress lawmakers following allegations of unlawful entry during a fortnight-long student protest.
Delhi Police book opposition leaders following university complaint
Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report against Members of Parliament, including Congress Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood and Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi, after the Jamia Millia Islamia administration accused them of unlawfully entering campus premises during an ongoing student demonstration.
The formal complaint lodged by university authorities alleges that the leaders forcefully entered the campus and incited unrest among students who had been agitating for the restoration of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students' Union. Imran Masood rejected the trespassing allegations, questioning university officials over security management on campus.
Student union agitation called off after administrative agreement
The student agitation, which began on 12 October and included a hunger strike, was called off after 14 days when the university administration agreed to key student demands, including holding student union elections and revoking student rustications. Student elections at the university were last conducted in 2006.
During the course of the demonstration, university authorities had shifted all academic courses to an online format and restricted gate access to maintain campus safety. A major administrative meeting involving Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif, Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, and over 1,500 staff members was convened to address the situation. A administrative committee has now been formed to draft the new constitution for the student union.
Slogan row spreads to JNU campus
Following the events at Jamia, tensions expanded to neighboring institutions after controversial slogan graffiti was discovered on campus walls at Jamia Millia Islamia, followed by ideological counter-graffiti at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
