The Election Commission has concluded its comprehensive electoral roll revision in Karnataka, cleaning up duplicate entries and enrolling over ten lakh new voters.

Karnataka election officials have published the state's final electoral roll following a 129-day Special Intensive Revision (SIR), bringing the total count of eligible electors to 4.55 crore. The extensive drive was designed to clean up voter databases, streamline registration, and bolster electoral integrity across all constituencies.

The exercise began on June 20 with the verification of 5.54 crore entries recorded in the state voter list as of mid-June. Over four months of door-to-door checks and public notice periods allowed poll authorities to identify duplicate records, update residential details, and register newly eligible citizens.

Key figures from the Special Intensive Revision

During the claims and objections window that followed the publication of draft rolls in August, poll officials added 10.08 lakh voters through fresh applications. At the same time, over 1.88 lakh entries were removed under Form 7 filings, primarily covering individuals who had moved permanently or were found ineligible during verification hearings.

New additions10.08 lakh
Permanently shifted1,24,327
Ineligible after hearings61,960
Deceased electors1,091
Duplicate entries762
Absent electors184

In addition to new enrollments and deletions, election personnel processed corrections for 8.96 lakh voters who requested changes to names, addresses, or designated polling booths.

Systematic verification and procedural safeguards

The revision exercise mobilised a vast administrative network across the state, deploying over 60,000 booth-level officers alongside thousands of supervisors and electoral registration officers. Political parties also assigned 1.33 lakh booth-level agents during the enumeration phase to assist voters and monitor the accuracy of the rolls.

Addressing inquiries regarding 61,059 Form 7 applications generated during field checks in Bengaluru and other constituencies, poll officials explained that these records were automatically flagged by the administrative portal when voters could not be reached during notices regarding unmapped records or discrepancies. Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar emphasised that filing a Form 7 notice or flagging a record for verification does not automatically lead to the removal of a voter's name without due procedure.

Citizens across Karnataka can now verify their updated serial numbers, polling stations, and constituency details on the official Election Commission website or through the designated mobile application.
