The mayor's post for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has been categorised under the Unreserved General quota for the upcoming 2026 civic elections, putting in place the key electoral framework for Andhra Pradesh's commercial centre.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development department issued the notification through government order G.O.MS.No. 252 on Monday, 12 October 2026. The order formalises the reservation quotas for ward members as well as chairpersons and mayors across municipalities, nagar panchayats, and municipal corporations throughout the state ahead of the Second Ordinary Elections-2026.

Ward reservations across Vijayawada

Under the finalised framework, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation comprises 86 wards with an electorate numbering 8,05,797 voters. The administration has distributed the seats strictly in line with statutory reservation guidelines to ensure broad community representation while advancing orderly urban governance.

The ward breakdown assigns two seats to Scheduled Tribes, divided equally between an ST general seat and an ST woman seat. Scheduled Castes have been allocated ten seats, split evenly between five SC general and five SC women seats.

Backward Classes hold 31 wards across the city, with 16 seats reserved for BC general candidates and 15 reserved for BC women. The remaining 43 wards sit in the Open Category, comprising 22 OC general seats and 21 seats designated exclusively for OC women.

Administrative timetable

Following the state notification, local authorities have moved swiftly to complete the operational formalities. The District Collector is tasked with categorising each specific ward under the prescribed rules and submitting the final roster to the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration by 13 October.

The timely release of the reservation roster establishes institutional clarity for the urban local body polls, setting the stage for smooth electoral preparations across the state.
