Natalie Nakase collapses on court before coaching Valkyries to playoff win
The Golden State head coach went down with 1:40 left in Game 3 before returning to the bench to close out Dallas.

Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase collapsed to the floor during the closing minutes of her team’s season-defining playoff victory over the Dallas Wings on Friday night, before getting back to her feet to coach them into the WNBA semifinals.
The incident occurred with 1:40 left on the clock at Chase Center in San Francisco. Nakase was speaking with an official about a no-call on a Gabby Williams layup when she suddenly slumped onto the hardwood. Three assistant coaches quickly helped the 46-year-old to her feet. Nakase was seen holding her forehead, but she immediately returned to the huddle, picked up her clipboard, and drew up the play that put Golden State ahead for good.
Williams scored out of that timeout to make it 73-72 with 1:17 remaining, then sealed a 77-73 victory with four free throws to complete a 16-point comeback in the decisive Game 3.
Health status after the final buzzer
Although Nakase remained on the bench to see out the remaining seconds, she showed visible signs of discomfort once the game ended. While crossing the floor to shake hands with Dallas coach Jose Fernandez, Nakase was rubbing her temple and the side of her head, and she required the support of team staff to walk down the tunnel.
Nakase did not attend the postgame press conference. Assistant coach Kasib Powell stepped in to handle media duties and said she had recovered well once inside the locker room.
"She didn’t miss a beat," Powell said. "When she went to the sideline, she drew the next play up. She was in the huddle, getting on them about getting a stop. We just know that we saw her afterwards, and she was fine, laughing, in great spirits. So we’ll figure out more as we go. But I think she’s totally fine."
Concerns over staff welfare
The fall prompted immediate concern across the league and among supporters inside the arena, sparking fresh scrutiny around the physical strain and stress placed on coaching staff during intense elimination fixtures.
Nakase has no public history of fainting or underlying medical issues. The Valkyries organisation has not yet provided a clinical explanation for the incident, and it is not yet clear whether dehydration, fatigue, or an accidental slip caused her to lose balance.
What happens next
The Valkyries are scheduled to host the Las Vegas Aces at Chase Center on Sunday in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals, having reached the final four in just their second season.
The team has not yet stated whether Nakase will run practice on Saturday or face any medical restrictions ahead of Sunday's tip-off.
