PSL 2027 to clash with IPL as PCB locks in March dates
The Pakistan Super League will run from mid-March to May, right as the BCCI plans an earlier start for its own flagship tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has locked in the dates for the 2027 Pakistan Super League, setting up another direct scheduling clash with the Indian Premier League.
PSL 12 will begin on 18 March and run until 2 May 2027, the board confirmed following a meeting in London with franchise owners and stakeholders. The decision means the eight-team tournament is highly likely to run parallel to the 20th edition of the IPL.
While the BCCI has not officially released its schedule for 2027, Indian cricket officials are actively planning to pull their tournament forward. The goal is to avoid the extreme heat and pre-monsoon rains that frequently disrupt matches in late May.
Speaking to the Press Trust of India, BCCI official Saikia said discussions are underway to start the IPL as early as 10 March and wrap it up by 15 May. The board has already instructed its game development general manager, former India fast bowler Abey Kuruvilla, to look for viable windows.
Why the overlap matters
When these two leagues collide, players are forced to choose. Because of political tensions, Pakistani players do not feature in the IPL, but international stars are regularly caught in the crossfire.
We have already seen how this plays out. In the previous season, several overseas players abandoned their PSL franchises when IPL replacement contracts became available.
Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson pulled out of his contract with the Quetta Gladiators, citing personal reasons, only to join the Chennai Super Kings. Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka left the Lahore Qalandars to play for the Rajasthan Royals.
In some cases, the fallout has been official. Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani withdrew from Islamabad United to join the Kolkata Knight Riders, a move that resulted in the PCB hitting him with a two-year ban from the Pakistani league.
A growing tournament
Despite the scheduling headaches, the PCB is pushing forward with its expansion plans. The 2027 season will be the second consecutive year featuring eight teams, following the inclusion of the Hyderabad Kingsmen.
The league has also transitioned from its traditional player draft to an auction system to better compete financially on the global stage.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the league intends to build on the momentum of the 2026 season, which saw Peshawar Zalmi defeat debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in front of a record crowd of more than 32,000 fans at Gaddafi Stadium.
"PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of," Naqvi said. "PSL 12 will raise the bar further."
