What happened Ahmedabad-based space-tech startup SpectraGaze Systems Private Limited has secured ₹3.7 crore in a seed funding round led by venture capital firm GVFL, alongside participation from angel investors. The fundraise marks the company's first external capital round after three years of growth funded entirely through customer programmes. Founded in 2023 by former Indian Space Research Organisation scientist Arup Banerjee, who brings 23 years of institutional experience, SpectraGaze manufactures optical imaging sensors and electro-optical payloads for space, defence and scientific research. The funding reflects the rapid expansion of India's domestic high-technology manufacturing ecosystem, where indigenous engineering is steadily replacing imported specialized hardware. ## Strategic partnerships and technical milestones SpectraGaze focuses on developing indigenous imaging hardware to reduce reliance on imported optical detectors. Over the past three years, the company has secured major technical contracts across national space and research bodies. | Organization | Role or milestone | | --- | --- | | GVFL | Lead seed investor | | ISRO | Delivered infrared detector system; HRSAT programme sensor contract | | Kaynes Technology | Contract for 3U satellite hyperspectral imaging camera | | iDEX PRIME | Winner of challenge for Infrared Detector Dewar Cooler Assembly | SpectraGaze has delivered an infrared detector and test system to ISRO and secured an image sensor contract for the space agency's next-generation HRSAT satellite programme in partnership with AMETEK. The startup also won the defence ministry's iDEX PRIME Challenge for the indigenous development of an Infrared Detector Dewar Cooler Assembly. ## What happens next The company plans to deploy the capital into core product development, engineering recruitment, testing infrastructure upgrades and commercial expansion across defence and space markets. SpectraGaze is currently developing a hyperspectral imaging camera for a 3U satellite, scheduled for delivery to Kaynes Technology India Limited in November 2026. Its future roadmap includes advanced imaging systems for Earth observation, space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, greenhouse-gas emission mapping and drone-based hyperspectral sensing. GVFL Managing Director Mihir Joshi said the investment will support SpectraGaze as it advances its engineering strength and expands across India's strategic sectors. SpectraGaze Founder Arup Banerjee said the capital injection will accelerate product cycles and help bring indigenous imaging solutions to a broader set of commercial applications.
