What Amazon announced on Oct 1, 2026

Amazon unveiled a refreshed Kindle family that includes a compact six‑inch model, updated Colorsoft and Paperwhite e‑readers, and a new Bluetooth‑enabled Click remote. The company says the six‑inch device is its lightest yet and runs about 30 % faster than the previous generation, thanks to a redesigned processor and the new reverse‑stack display construction – a first for e‑readers.

New Kindle models and colours

The lineup now ships in four fresh shades: Ube, a deep purple; Alpine Sky, a cool blue‑grey; Seaglass Green, a muted teal; and Graphite, a classic dark tone. Amazon also says the colour finish wraps from front to back, giving the devices a seamless look. Both the Colorsoft and Paperwhite receive a flush‑front display with no raised border, making the reading surface uninterrupted. In addition, the colour "Fig" is being introduced to e‑readers for the first time, according to Android Authority.

Kindle Click remote – hands‑free page turning

Amazon introduced the Kindle Click, a compact Bluetooth remote priced at $34.99. TechCrunch reports the accessory is aimed at readers who find touching the device inconvenient – for example, when reading in bed, on a treadmill, or on a flight tray. The Click works with all the new Kindle models and any Kindle released from 2024 onward. It joins existing third‑party options such as the $29.99 Kobo Remote and the $29.99 BOOX Tappy, but Amazon positions it as an official accessory tailored to its latest hardware.

Other accessories

Alongside the remote, Amazon announced a magnetic cover that includes physical page‑turn buttons and a charging dock stand for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Colorsoft Signature Edition.

Why it matters

The redesign signals Amazon’s intent to keep the Kindle at the centre of the e‑reading market by modernising both hardware aesthetics and user experience. The faster, lighter six‑inch model may appeal to long‑time Kindle users who prefer a more portable device, while the new colour palette and the Click remote aim to attract readers looking for a more personalised, hands‑free experience.

What’s next

All devices are now available for preorder on Amazon’s website, with shipments expected to begin later this year. Prices for the new Colorsoft and Paperwhite models were not disclosed in the announcement.
