Cyclone Murasu rain in South India as IMD tracks weakening system
The India Meteorological Department forecasts continued showers across southern states while Delhi-NCR prepares for cool, dry mornings.
Rainfall and thunderstorms will continue across parts of southern and central India on Thursday, 5 November, as the remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu maintain their influence over the region.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm system crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast before weakening into a depression over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh. The meteorological tracking shows the system moving northwards, where it is expected to weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area.
Southern and central regions prepare for continued rain
Despite losing severe cyclonic strength, the system continues to draw moisture from the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has issued forecasts for isolated to scattered rainfall across several southern states and adjoining territories.
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and south interior Karnataka. Authorities have advised coastal communities and farmers in affected regions to take normal precautions against sudden downpours and brief localized wind gusts.
| Region | Forecasted Weather | Winds and Storm Activity |
|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu & Puducherry | Isolated heavy rain | Showers expected |
| South Interior Karnataka | Isolated heavy rain | Thunderstorms and lightning |
| Coastal Andhra Pradesh | Scattered rain | Thunderstorms and gusty winds |
| Vidarbha & Chhattisgarh | Isolated rain | Mild unsettled weather |
| Odisha | Scattered rain | Thunderstorms and lightning |
| Delhi-NCR | Dry, clear skies | Morning mist, light winds |
In eastern and central India, unsettled conditions will persist in pockets of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, where isolated light showers are forecast. Odisha is likely to see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds throughout the day.
Dry air and morning fog for Delhi-NCR
Across north-western India, weather conditions remain largely stable. Delhi-NCR will see mainly clear skies on Thursday, with shallow fog or mist developing during the early morning hours.
Temperatures in the capital will stay mild, with daily maximums expected between 27°C and 29°C and minimums ranging from 15°C to 17°C. North-westerly winds will blow at up to 15 kmph in the morning, briefly increasing to 20 kmph during the afternoon before easing in the evening.
With no major weather system expected to bring rainfall to the national capital region over the coming week, atmospheric conditions will remain dry ahead of the Diwali festival period. Official agencies continue to monitor regional wind patterns to assess air quality dynamics across northern urban hubs.
