India and the United States are deepening strategic cooperation across defence, technology and healthcare, with fresh bilateral announcements expected soon following direct talks between the leadership of both nations, US ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Monday.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence, Gor underscored the breadth of the current partnership, pointing to rising bilateral investments and close operational alignment between the armed forces.

What US envoy Sergio Gor said on Modi-Trump talks

Gor pointed directly to recent high-level diplomatic momentum, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke just last week. While he declined to detail specific agreements currently under negotiation, the envoy signalled that significant announcements were in the pipeline.

"India and the US have a great relationship, there’s so much happening; pick any sector and we're working together in it," Gor said, adding: "PM Modi and President Trump spoke just last week; so stay tuned for what comes next."

The remarks reflect New Delhi's rising stature as an indispensable partner for Washington, reinforcing a shared commitment to regional stability and mutual economic growth.

Expanding defence ties and joint military exercises

Defence cooperation remains a cornerstone of the expanding bilateral relationship. Pointing to concrete operational cooperation, Gor highlighted joint military engagements, including the large-scale Exercise Tarang Shakti held at the Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.

The multilateral exercise brought together more than 500 personnel, demonstrating the increasing interoperability between Indian and American forces and New Delhi's growing capacity to anchor major international air combat drills.

Growth across technology, manufacturing and healthcare

Beyond military cooperation, economic and industrial ties between the two countries are expanding rapidly. Gor noted that cross-border capital flows are moving in both directions, driven by strong fundamentals and mutual confidence.

American firms are establishing large-scale production facilities across India, tapping into the country's upgraded infrastructure, skilled workforce and manufacturing initiatives. Indian technology firms continue to make substantial direct investments across the United States.

"In terms of IT development, incredible things are happening in both directions, with investments in the US and some of our companies opening large production facilities here in India. It is an incredible opportunity," Gor said.

Gor also drew attention to the critical role played by Indian healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturers in supporting American medical supply chains. Indian firms provide a substantial portion of generic medicines consumed in the US.

"In healthcare, we import a significant amount of our generic pharmaceuticals from India," Gor said. "This is because we trust India."
