AMFI data shows record SIP inflows of Rs 32,490 crore in September as equity mutual funds surge
Domestic investors continue to demonstrate immense confidence in India's growth story, pushing monthly SIP contributions to an all-time high.

Retail investors power record monthly SIP inflows
Indian retail investors demonstrated firm confidence in the nation's economic momentum, driving monthly Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions to a historic peak of Rs 32,490 crore in September 2026. Data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) shows that net inflows into equity mutual funds jumped nearly 31 per cent month-on-month to reach Rs 38,307 crore, marking the 67th consecutive month of net positive equity flows.
The steady flow of domestic capital highlights how expanding financial literacy and stable macroeconomic policy have anchored national market stability. While foreign institutional investors remained net sellers amidst global headwinds and elevated US Treasury yields, strong domestic participation ensured that local capital markets remained resilient.
Folio count expands as retail participation broadens
The mutual fund industry added 27.13 lakh new folios in September, bringing the total investor folio count to 28.62 crore, up 0.9 per cent from 28.35 crore in August. Equity-oriented schemes accounted for the vast majority of this expansion, contributing 66.7 per cent of total folios and adding 17.70 lakh new accounts during the month.
AMFI Chief Executive Venkat N Chalasani noted that equity funds remained the primary driver of investor entry into the market. Overall SIP assets under management now represent 21.6 per cent of the industry's total assets, standing at Rs 17.86 lakh crore and providing a stable, recurring foundation for domestic wealth creation.
Domestic institutional investors bolstered their market presence during the month, expanding their purchases to Rs 76,030 crore compared to Rs 58,268 crore in August. This robust buying absorbed foreign outflows and reflected strong conviction in India's broader macroeconomic trajectory.
Market landscape and asset shifts
Total mutual fund industry assets under management stood at Rs 82.64 lakh crore at the end of September, reflecting a 5.1 per cent sequential decline from August. The overall asset shift was largely driven by debt fund redemptions, which typically occur at the end of a quarter as corporate investors rebalance liquidity, alongside mark-to-market adjustments.
Inflows into safe-haven assets also picked up. Gold Exchange Traded Funds attracted Rs 4,451 crore in September, up from Rs 2,596.70 crore in August, while Silver ETFs recorded inflows of Rs 1,974.32 crore.
Despite global macroeconomic fluctuations, volatile energy costs, and international geopolitical tensions, India's mutual fund ecosystem continues to demonstrate structural stability, powered by millions of disciplined individual savers investing directly into the nation's growth.
