PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Bengaluru Metro Pink Line stretch on 13 November

The opening of the elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere pushes Namma Metro past 100 km, expanding high-speed transit across key southern IT corridors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 7.5-km elevated section of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line on 13 November, pushing the city's operational rapid transit network past the 100-km mark.

The new stretch connects Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere in south Bengaluru. With seven new stations opening to the public, the capital's operational metro network expands from 96.1 km to 103.6 km, reinforcing Bengaluru's standing as home to India's second-largest metro network after Delhi.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya confirmed the inauguration date, stating that the Prime Minister will travel from Tavarekere to the IIMB-Bilekahalli station before launching commercial services. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda also confirmed the scheduled opening.

Key stations and urban impact

The initial operational phase of the Pink Line serves key residential and business districts along Bannerghatta Road. Commuters travelling near Hulimavu, JP Nagar, and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will see immediate reductions in road congestion.

A central feature of the new stretch is the Jayadeva Hospital station, which acts as a major interchange connecting the Pink Line with the existing Yellow Line. The interchange links commuters directly to the Electronics City technology hub and RV Road, significantly streamlining transit across the city's primary employment zones.

Future network expansion

The 7.5-km elevated line marks the first operational stage of the broader 21.25-km Pink Line project, which will ultimately connect Kalena Agrahara in south Bengaluru to Nagawara in the north.

Work continues on the remaining 13.76-km underground section, where the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited plans to start trial runs in November. The rail corporation targets May 2027 for the full opening of the 18-station Pink Line corridor.
