Reliance Industries stock faces pressure as Jio Platforms prepares for record ₹30,000 crore IPO
Market watchers evaluate holding company discounts and valuation impact ahead of India's largest share sale.

Reliance stock adjusts ahead of mega public offering
Reliance Industries shares have dipped six per cent over the past month to trade around ₹1,165 as the market digests the structural details of Jio Platforms' upcoming ₹30,000 crore initial public offering.
Set to become India's largest ever share sale, surpassing Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,800 crore issue in 2024, the public listing marks Reliance Industries' first public offering in three decades. Jio Platforms has pitched its positioning as a technology powerhouse rather than solely a telecom provider during global roadshows across Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia.
The proposed offering is structured as a purely fresh issue of approximately 2.9 per cent post-IPO equity, with no offer-for-sale component. Reliance Industries will retain a controlling stake of around 64.5 per cent to 66.4 per cent, while the primary proceeds will be directed towards debt prepayment and infrastructure expansion.
Valuation dynamics and holding company discount
According to market reports and brokerage estimates, Jio Platforms is expected to set a price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share, implying an equity valuation between ₹10.3 lakh crore and ₹11 lakh crore ($114 billion).
Institutional desks and arbitrage traders have temporarily discounted Reliance Industries' valuation ahead of the listing to establish firm post-market pricing. Analysis by Nomura and Motilal Oswal Financial Services indicates that Reliance's current stock price already reflects an 18 per cent to 36 per cent holding company discount on its digital arm.
Brokerages view the public listing as a strategic long-term positive that brings transparent pricing to Reliance's digital operations without diluting core shareholder value. Reliance will also continue to offer investors direct exposure to its retail business, refining assets, and expanding green energy ventures.
Technical targets and telecom industry outlook
Technical analysts at KC Securities place immediate support for Reliance Industries shares at ₹1,145, with key structural support at ₹1,120. Resistance remains at ₹1,200, and a sustained closing above that level could open a path towards ₹1,265 in the near term.
Beyond Reliance itself, market analysts expect the landmark listing to act as a valuation catalyst for India's wider telecommunications sector. Greater public market scrutiny on earnings growth following the debut could accelerate long-delayed mobile tariff increases, boosting cash flow generation across the broader industry.
