Tata Elxsi shares jump 7% after Q2 earnings show revenue and margin rebound
Strong execution in domestic aerospace, transportation, and digital health offsets cautious brokerage calls and European headwinds.

Tata Elxsi shares surged as much as 7% on Wednesday to touch a session high of ₹3,657 on the BSE, propelled by steady second-quarter earnings that demonstrated the underlying strength of India's engineering research and design sector.
The Bengaluru-based technology provider posted a 10% year-on-year increase in net profit for the September quarter to ₹170 crore, compared with ₹155 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations climbed 15% year-on-year to ₹1,056 crore. Sequentially, operating revenue advanced 3.4%, or 2.3% in constant-currency terms, comfortably beating market projections.
Broad-based revenue expansion
The quarter marked a notable operational turnaround after a challenging start to the financial year. Tata Elxsi's earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margin expanded to 19.7% from 19% in the prior quarter, as efficiency measures and higher capacity utilisation of 78% absorbed full wage increases.
Growth was broad-based across software development verticals. Transportation, which accounts for 55% of the division's business, grew 2% sequentially in constant currency. The company secured a multi-year connected-vehicle programme with an automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and advanced high-value aerospace work, including a partnership with Sarla Aviation to develop indigenous electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
Media and communications revenue increased 3.4%, buoyed by generative artificial intelligence deployments and contract expansions. Healthcare and life sciences also grew 3.5% on the back of turnkey digital health engineering wins.
How brokerages rate Tata Elxsi stock
Despite the earnings beat and expanding domestic aerospace opportunities, major institutional brokerages reiterated conservative stances, pointing to stretched valuation multiples and sluggish corporate spending across Europe.
| Brokerage | Rating | Target Price | Primary Concern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morgan Stanley | Underweight | ₹3,400 | Rich valuation and seasonal softness in Q3 |
| Motilal Oswal | Sell | ₹2,970 | European automotive slowdown and deal conversion lag |
| JM Financial | Reduce | ₹3,358 | Delayed decision-making among European carmakers |
Motilal Oswal noted that while European automotive clients remain hesitant, operations in the United States and India provide dependable support. JM Financial observed that revenue leakages have narrowed as Tata Elxsi transitions direct relationships towards vehicle manufacturers rather than tier-one suppliers, reducing project cancellations.
Technological resilience
While analysts flagged that enterprise budgets are balancing traditional engineering with artificial intelligence tools, Tata Elxsi has stepped up investments in proprietary AI-first platforms, including an alliance with Silicon Valley-based KAVIA AI.
With wage adjustments completed and the domestic automotive and aerospace pipeline expanding, management expects growth to build momentum through the second half of the fiscal year. The market reaction indicates that investors remain confident in India's high-end engineering capabilities to navigate external trade crosscurrents.
