Tata Motors and Stellantis expand tie-up to manufacture global vehicles in India
The Indian automaker will share its advanced vehicle architecture with Stellantis as part of a joint push to produce vehicles in India for export worldwide.

Expanding India's role in global vehicle production
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, its electric vehicle arm, and Stellantis India have signed a definitive agreement to jointly develop and manufacture vehicles in India for more than 50 global markets.
The expanded partnership will see Tata Motors provide Stellantis with access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis will draw on its engineering and development talent in India to adapt these platforms for international buyers, tailoring products to meet diverse regulatory requirements and operating conditions worldwide.
All vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles Private Ltd, the 50:50 joint venture production facility operated by Tata Motors and Stellantis.
Strengthening manufacturing capabilities
The agreement follows a preliminary memorandum of understanding signed in February 2026, when both companies agreed to explore deeper cooperation across engineering, supply chains, and manufacturing in India and overseas.
The initiative highlights India's rapidly growing reputation as an international industrial hub, driven by high-quality engineering talent, modern manufacturing infrastructure, and competitive production scale. The alliance aims to accelerate exports while embedding Indian engineering into global automotive supply chains.
Shailesh Chandra, managing director and chief executive of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the deal marks an important step forward, extending their collaboration into advanced technology and vehicle architecture.
"We are delighted that Stellantis will leverage them to develop products for global markets," Chandra said, adding that the partnership presents a clear opportunity to combine their relative strengths to build vehicles engineered and made in India for customers across the globe.
Tianshu Xin, chief operating officer of Stellantis Asia-Pacific, said combining Tata Motors' domestic capabilities with Stellantis' global market reach will boost competitive vehicle development and expand export potential. He noted that the deal reinforces India's position as a strategic manufacturing and development base for Stellantis, which oversees a portfolio of 14 international automotive brands including FIAT, Jeep, Peugeot, Citroën, and Alfa Romeo.
