Tonbo Imaging India opened its ₹852.18 crore initial public offering for subscription on 15 October 2026, closing its first day of bidding subscribed 4.00 times over as institutional and wealthy individual investors poured in orders late in the session.

The Bengaluru-based defence electronics manufacturer has set a price band of ₹665 to ₹700 per share for the offer, which runs until 19 October 2026. Bidding started quietly on Wednesday morning, reaching just 0.19 times by 10:12 AM, before accelerating steadily past the fully subscribed mark around midday and gathering pace into the afternoon close.

Broad-based demand across investor segments

High-net-worth individuals and qualified institutional buyers drove the afternoon expansion. Institutional investors, who had logged no bids before 1:15 PM, bought aggressively in the final two hours, taking their bucket to 3.92 times the shares allocated to them.

Unofficial grey market trading also pointed to high listing appetite. The grey market premium hovered at ₹500 per share, signalling an estimated listing price of ₹1,200 at the upper price band of ₹700, representing an indicative premium of 71.43%.

Indigenous defence capabilities drive global reach

The issue reflects growing market backing for India's domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem, which has expanded rapidly under government self-reliance programmes. Founded in 2003, Tonbo Imaging operates under the Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) framework, developing proprietary electro-optics, thermal imaging equipment, weapon sights, missile seekers, and counter-drone systems.

According to an assessment by Frost & Sullivan cited in the company's offer documents, Tonbo Imaging is India's largest manufacturer of thermal imaging systems for state and defence agencies, accounting for 94% of the country's thermal imaging exports by units. More than 28,000 of its systems are deployed across 24 countries.

Because its core electro-optical and infrared components are designed outside the purview of the United States International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the company faces fewer export barriers in serving partner armed forces worldwide.

Offer structure and key dates

The public issue consists entirely of an offer for sale of up to 1.22 crore equity shares by existing investors, meaning the company will receive no direct proceeds from the listing.

Financially, the company posted revenue from operations of ₹362.64 crore and a net profit of ₹50.88 crore for the fiscal year ended March 2026, down from ₹469.08 crore and ₹72.75 crore in fiscal 2025 due to uneven procurement cycles. Offer documents note that Tonbo relies on five primary clients for over half its annual business and remains exposed to international supply chains for critical sensors. Even so, the opening day rush reflects firm investor faith in Indian defence technology companies making deep inroads into global supply lines.
