Tonbo Imaging India closed its Rs 852.18-crore initial public offering with an overall subscription of 135.9 times on 19 October, drawing massive appetite from institutional and high-net-worth investors.

According to National Stock Exchange data, the public issue received bids for 1,15,86,91,464 equity shares against the 85,26,033 shares on offer. The heavy demand reinforces strong market backing for India's indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, where domestic engineering firms have steadily expanded production and global export reach.

Qualified institutional buyers led the book, bidding 293.56 times the portion reserved for them. Non-institutional investors subscribed to their category 170.94 times, while retail individual investors booked their allocation 31.06 times.

Timeline for allotment and listing

The basis of allotment is set to be finalised on 21 October. In unofficial grey market trades ahead of formal listing, the company's shares were quoted at a premium of roughly 71 to 74 per cent above the upper price band of Rs 700 per share, indicating expectations of a strong debut. Unregulated grey market rates serve only as informal indicators of trader sentiment and do not offer guaranteed returns.

Offer structure and business profile

The entire Rs 852.18-crore offering, set within a price band of Rs 665 to Rs 700 per share, is an offer for sale of roughly 1.22 crore shares by existing shareholders. Because no fresh capital is being issued, the proceeds go entirely to the selling shareholders rather than the company balance sheet.

Founded in December 2003 and based in Bengaluru, Tonbo Imaging operates as an original equipment manufacturer of advanced defence electronics. The company designs and manufactures electro-optic, infrared, embedded vision, and surveillance systems. Its portfolio includes thermal imaging sights, fire-control apparatus, and missile guidance units designed on domestic technology and unencumbered by foreign arms transfer regimes like the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Tonbo Imaging operates as India's largest manufacturer of thermal imaging systems for defence and security bodies, as well as the country's top exporter by volume in the segment. More than 28,000 of its systems are currently operational across 24 countries.

On the financial side, the company recorded total income of Rs 370 crore in the financial year ending March 2026, down 22 per cent from Rs 474 crore a year earlier. Profit after tax fell 30 per cent over the same period to Rs 51 crore from Rs 73 crore. As of 30 June 2026, the company employed 339 permanent staff across research, engineering, and manufacturing roles.
