IIT Delhi and Lithuania train nearly 300 schoolgirls in ethical AI foundations
The international partnership brings advanced artificial intelligence education and ethical tech skills to young women in New Delhi.

IIT Delhi has completed a landmark artificial intelligence training initiative for nearly 300 schoolgirls, partnering with Lithuania, UNESCO, and the Lithuanian NGO Women Go Tech to build national capacity in emerging technologies and responsible digital tools.
The flagship programme, introduced in India for the first time, focused on delivering core AI knowledge while embedding ethical design principles. Participating students were drawn from IIT Delhi’s Manasvi STEM mentorship scheme alongside five Delhi school groups: Fr Agnel School, Mahavir Senior Model School, St Mark’s Group of Schools, Mount Carmel School, and Mount Abu Public School.
A concluding ceremony held at IIT Delhi under the theme 'Ethical AI: Empowering the Next Generation of Women Innovators' brought together students, educators, and global policy experts to review practical applications of artificial intelligence in modern education.
Organisers noted that the curriculum combined technical foundations with a clear focus on ethics-by-design, ensuring young innovators understand both the transformative possibilities and societal responsibilities linked with AI deployment.

During the event, discussions led by academic leaders examined how artificial intelligence will reshape learning environments. IIT Delhi professors Mausam, Nick McKeown, and Richa Kumar addressed the future of classroom instruction, while UNESCO national project officer Abhishek Venkateswaran detailed ethics-by-design frameworks.
Student technical group ARIES, IIT Delhi’s AI and machine learning club, led interactive sessions examining real-world deployment challenges. Speakers including IIT Delhi deputy general secretary for academic outreach Lakshya Baid, Women Go Tech chief executive Jarūnė Preikšaitė, and Lithuanian chargé d’affaires Lukas Kisielius highlighted how international educational ties accelerate high-tech skill development.
The initiative demonstrates India's growing leadership in expanding tech-driven educational opportunities, preparing the next generation of women researchers and engineers to drive global innovation standards.
