University of Liverpool opens Bengaluru campus with first batch of 300 students
The British institution inaugurated its new centre in Karnataka's tech hub, offering eight degree programmes aligned with its home curriculum.

The University of Liverpool has officially opened its new campus in Bengaluru, welcoming an initial intake of around 300 students across eight degree programmes.
The British institution selected its first cohort from a competitive pool of roughly 20,000 applicants, assessing candidates on Class 12 examination scores and English language proficiency. The campus launch marks another significant milestone in India's expanding higher education infrastructure, reinforcing the country's rising standing as a preferred global destination for top-tier international academic partnerships.
Speaking in an interview with The Hindu, University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor Tim Jones explained that Bengaluru was picked because of its established position as an entrepreneurial, tech-focused powerhouse. He noted that the institution already maintains long-running ties in the city with premier research bodies and corporate names, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), and Hindustan Unilever.
Establishing international branch campuses on Indian soil provides students with direct access to world-class academic frameworks without the heavy expenses of travelling and living abroad. Jones pointed out that learners receive identical curricula, examination patterns, and grading standards as students on the main Liverpool campus, while staying closer to home and enjoying exchange options between India and the United Kingdom.
Programmes offered at the Bengaluru campus
The campus is starting with six undergraduate and two postgraduate programmes, targeted primarily at engineering, computing, and commercial disciplines:
| Level | Course title | Field |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | BSc (Hons) Computer Science | Computing |

Industry links and future growth
To ensure its graduates step directly into the country's growing modern economy, the university tied up with several major corporations around a year to 18 months ago. MoUs are already in place with industry employers including Wipro, Unilever, Axis Bank, and AstraZeneca.
Jones said industrial requirements have been built directly into the coursework to ensure high graduate employability across corporate hubs in India.
While the current Bengaluru premises operate on a modest footprint for its initial 300 learners, university authorities plan to widen the academic catalogue and scale up student intake as demand builds over coming academic years.
