Blueprint for India's DeepTech future

The PanIIT Andhra Pradesh Summit in Vijayawada has concluded, establishing a bold DeepTech blueprint for the state and the nation. Led by Summit Chair Swadeep Pillarisetti, the gathering brought together global technology pioneers, venture capitalists, IIT leaders, and top government officials to chart a path for frontier technology, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.

The summit showcased the momentum building behind Andhra Pradesh's ambition to become a global technology hub. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu demonstrated the state government's commitment by spending almost 10 hours at the venue, engaging with delegates and participating in strategic deliberations throughout the day. Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister Lokesh Nara was also present, aligning state policy with global industry expertise.

Leadership driving frontier innovation

At the centre of the summit's success was Swadeep Pillarisetti, whose leadership as Summit Chair helped synthesize private venture expertise with public policy goals.

Pillarisetti serves as Founding Partner and Managing Director at Blue Ocean Venture Partners, a global investor group composed of serial entrepreneurs. The firm invests millions of dollars in and advises cutting-edge early-stage deep-tech and AI startups in India and international markets. Its investment portfolio spans critical sectors including space, defence, robotics, smart materials and manufacturing, chips and semiconductors, and electric vehicles.

Beyond venture investment, Pillarisetti actively guides high-growth technology enterprises through strategic board leadership.

Through his board roles at category-defining companies like AutoNxt and KoinX, Pillarisetti has helped startups raise millions of dollars in capital and scale their operations globally.

State initiatives and global collaboration

Under Pillarisetti's stewardship, the Vijayawada summit set actionable milestones for state and national development. Chief Minister Naidu announced a series of major initiatives during the event, including the establishment of a Rs 500 crore PanIIT Amaravati Deep Tech Venture Fund and plans for an IIT Research Park in the capital region.

The summit also witnessed the launch of Q-Shiva, featuring five quantum computers, alongside state commitments to integrate AI and entrepreneurship education into school curricula from Class 6 onwards.

The strategic alignment forged between PanIIT's global alumni network of over 500,000 graduates and the Andhra Pradesh government marks a transformative moment for deep technology commercialisation. By connecting early-stage research with venture capital and policy support, the blueprint established at Vijayawada provides a scalable model for India's emerging tech ecosystem.

RJ Mitte Breaking Bad actor

RJ Mitte, ’Breaking Bad’ actor and disability rights champion, dies at 34

RJ Mitte, the actor who brought Walter White Jr. to life on Breaking Bad, died on Monday in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 34, authorities and his representatives said. Justice Cyndi Hinojosa of Cameron County declared him dead at about 1:30 p.m., and an autopsy is planned.

Mitte appeared in every episode of the five‑season series, portraying the teenage son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White. His on‑screen disability mirrored his own, as he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age three. Critics and fans alike praised his nuanced performance, noting how he infused the character with quiet strength and authenticity.

Beyond acting, Mitte was a tireless disability‑rights advocate. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and he led the Mitte Foundation, which funds community initiatives focused on disability awareness and inclusion. In a statement, his representatives said, “Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”

IndiaAI Mission targets sovereign foundation models as reasoning architectures lower compute barrier

India is stepping up procurement for its national compute infrastructure under the ₹10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission, aiming to deploy sovereign foundation models at a moment when global artificial intelligence research is shifting decisively in favour of inference efficiency.

For nearly two years, the frontier of large language models belonged almost exclusively to a handful of American technology companies capable of spending hundreds of millions of dollars on pre-training runs. That dynamic changed over the past six months. The focus of leading research laboratories has moved from massive data-ingestion pre-training towards reinforcement learning during post-training and test-time compute, where models spend additional processing cycles "thinking" through problems before generating a response.

This architectural pivot, visible in systems such as OpenAI's o1 and o3 series as well as open-weight reasoning models like DeepSeek-R1, means high-level mathematics, coding, and logical reasoning no longer require trillion-parameter model sizes. Instead, smaller models trained with deliberate chain-of-thought reinforcement learning are matching or exceeding the problem-solving benchmarks of earlier flagship systems at a fraction of the operating cost.
