Salford murder investigation launched after man dies on Great Clowes Street
Five men are in custody and forensic officers are searching a house in Lower Broughton after a man in his 40s was found unresponsive.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found unresponsive inside a house in Salford on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were called to a property on Great Clowes Street in Lower Broughton at around 7.50pm. Paramedics and police officers attempted to save the man, who was in his 40s, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation and arrested five suspects, aged between 24 and 35. All five men remain in police custody for questioning.
The scene on Great Clowes Street
The brick terraced property at the centre of the inquiry is understood to be a house in multiple occupation (HMO). By Wednesday morning, the front door had been cordoned off with blue and white police tape, and forensic officers in protective suits were seen entering the building to gather evidence.
Local residents reported a large emergency response in the area overnight. One neighbour described seeing ambulances line the street, while another recalled armed police and an air ambulance arriving as the scale of the incident became clear.
A builder working on a construction site directly opposite the house said forensics teams were already active when his shift began. "We heard there was a lot of police last night," he said. "They were here before we started at 6.30am with the forensics. It’s just shocking really."
What happens next in the investigation
Detectives are working to reconstruct the timeline of events leading up to the man's death. A post-mortem examination is being conducted to establish exactly how he died.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Partington, of Greater Manchester Police, said officers are keeping an open mind.
"We now have five men in custody as our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this man’s death continues," DCI Partington said. "Our priority is to establish exactly what happened and we are keeping an open mind as we work to build a full picture of the events leading up to his death."
He sought to reassure local people, acknowledging that a heavy police presence and a murder inquiry would cause concern in Broughton. "At this stage, we are confident that there isn’t any wider threat to the public," he said, adding that officers would remain in the neighbourhood to carry out enquiries and speak to residents.
Investigators have appealed for anyone with information, or who may have witnessed suspicious activity on Great Clowes Street on Tuesday night, to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
