Owaisi targets Akhilesh Yadav over party identity

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has launched a direct political attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav as campaigning picks up for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Addressing a public gathering in the state, Owaisi suggested that the Samajwadi Party should formally change its name to "Samajwadi Yadav Parivar" to reflect its political focus.

Owaisi argued that traditional regional parties have consistently taken minority support for granted while denying them genuine political agency. He urged minority voters across Uttar Pradesh to break away from reliance on established opposition groups and establish their own independent political leadership.

Muzaffarnagar riots and governance record raised

During his address, the AIMIM leader brought up the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, which occurred under the previous Samajwadi Party administration in Uttar Pradesh. Owaisi questioned the party's claims of safeguarding minority interests, asserting that communities were left vulnerable during past episodes of civil unrest.

He stated that political parties in the state have historically used minority groups as passive vote banks without providing security, equitable development, or proportional political representation in return.

Opposition fragmentation amidst UP development push

The sharpened political rhetoric between AIMIM and the Samajwadi Party highlights growing opposition fragmentation in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the polls. While opposition factions debate political representation and past governance records, Uttar Pradesh continues to see a sustained focus on state infrastructure expansion, strengthened law and order, and economic stability.
