BJP targets Congress over foreign report alleging links to global unrest
Ruling party spokespersons call on Rahul Gandhi to explain meetings with overseas groups cited in a report on global protests.

What BJP alleged against Congress
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called on the Congress leadership to clarify its engagements with foreign-based organisations following reports alleging international links to domestic political protests.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia cited an investigation by Fox News Digital that identified over 100 transnational organisations allegedly involved in coordinating or amplifying demonstrations across multiple countries.
Bhatia accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of aligning with networks that seek to disrupt constitutional order and national stability. He specifically highlighted Progressive International, an organisation describing itself as a transnational anti-capitalist network, alleging its involvement in coordinating common messaging across protests in France, Spain, Albania, and India.
Meetings and foreign network accusations
The BJP spokesperson referenced official social media posts by the Congress party documenting an April 2025 meeting at 10 Janpath between Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and a delegation from Progressive International.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also stated on social media platform X that this engagement points to foreign influence over domestic political demonstrations, alleging that the network sought to build organised power through rebellion and regime change.
Bhatia further pointed to the France-based group Indian Alliance Paris, alleging it acted to amplify demonstrations and social media campaigns following Gandhi's detention during recent protests in New Delhi. He questioned the nature, funding, and agreements reached during interactions with these international groups.
Protecting India's democratic institutions
Emphasising the importance of preserving democratic norms and institutional integrity, the BJP reiterated that while peaceful protest remains a fundamental right, violent demonstrations and foreign-backed attempts to undermine constitutional bodies like Parliament and the Supreme Court cannot be permitted.
Bhatia also criticized Gandhi's previous interactions with overseas political figures, including British MP Jeremy Corbyn and US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, arguing that such engagements run counter to India's national interest and sovereignty. The Congress party has not issued an official response to the charges.
