The central government has approved a series of senior Indian Police Service postings, promotions, and deputation extensions across key central security organisations, reinforcing leadership stability across border management and critical transport infrastructure.

Under orders cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, senior officers have taken up top roles in the Railway Protection Force, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and the Border Security Force.

What are the key appointments?

Jitendra Kumar, an IPS officer of the 1993 Bihar cadre, has been named Director General of the Railway Protection Force at Level-16 of the pay matrix. Kumar takes over the post from Sonali Mishra, a 1993-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre officer. Government orders state he will serve at the helm of the railway security force until his superannuation on 31 March 2030, or until further orders.

The Cabinet panel also elevated two senior officers to Additional Director General positions across the country's frontline border guarding forces, both placed at Level-15 of the pay matrix:

  • Rajesh Kumar (MH:1998): Currently serving as Inspector General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, he has been elevated to ADG within the force. His five-year tenure will run from the date he takes charge until 24 September 2030, or until further orders.
  • Ashok Yadav (KL:1998): Currently Inspector General in the Border Security Force, he has been appointed Additional Director General in the force. His tenure is set for three years from assumption of charge or until 25 October 2029, taking his total combined central deputation to seven years.

Deputation extensions and administrative adjustments

To ensure operational continuity on sensitive frontiers, the Cabinet committee cleared a two-year extension of central deputation for A. K. Digambar Fulzele, an IPS officer of the 2001 Himachal Pradesh cadre. Fulzele, who serves as Inspector General in the Border Security Force, receives the extension beyond 6 February 2027 under a relaxation of the standard IPS Tenure Policy, taking his cumulative deputation to seven years.

Separately, the central government approved the premature curtailment of the central deputation tenure of Mrinalini Shrivastava, a 2002-batch Sikkim cadre IPS officer. Shrivastava had been serving as Director (Finance) in the National Disaster Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
