Delhi meeting focuses on governance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and 48 of the state's BJP MLAs at his residence in New Delhi to discuss governance and public welfare strategies.

The meeting, which also included Haryana BJP chief Archana Gupta, was described by Modi as a "meaningful dialogue" focused on the developmental needs of the state. The discussions centred on implementing welfare policies and addressing the concerns of residents across Haryana.

While the BJP consolidated its strategy in Haryana, political friction intensified in neighbouring Punjab, where the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suspended one of its own legislators, triggering a fresh clash with the BJP.

AAP suspends Punjab MLA over school video

In Punjab, AAP suspended Sukhvir Singh, the MLA representing the Maur constituency, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities.

The suspension followed an emotional video released by Singh, in which he criticized the state of government schools in his constituency. Singh highlighted the poor infrastructure of the school buildings and pointed out that many teacher posts remained vacant.

Unlike many politicians, Singh sends his own children to a government school. In his video, he claimed he had repeatedly raised these concerns with Punjab's state leadership and sought meetings with senior party figures, but was ignored. He also challenged the AAP leadership over how tickets are being distributed for the upcoming assembly elections.

BJP slams Bhagwant Mann administration

The suspension has given the BJP ammunition to attack the AAP-led government in Punjab, headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Opposition parties, with the BJP at the forefront, quickly criticized the state government, arguing that Singh's suspension reveals the reality behind AAP's claims of transforming the state's education system. BJP leaders argued that punishing an MLA for highlighting empty classrooms and run-down schools exposes the administration's intolerance of internal dissent and its failure to deliver on key policy promises.
