Security personnel maintained strict order across central Delhi on Monday as Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi led an opposition march towards the Supreme Court, comparing his alliance's demonstrations to the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva.

Speaking at the Congress headquarters at Indira Bhavan before joining demonstrators at the Barakhamba Road junction near Connaught Place, Gandhi sought to characterise the street agitation against the Election Commission as an organic, unfolding spectacle. Demonstrators from several states assembled under flags of the Congress party and affiliated student wings, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and questioning the poll body's Special Intensive Revision exercise.

What Rahul Gandhi told reporters at Indira Bhavan

Addressing the media, Gandhi rejected questions about whether the opposition possessed a coherent roadmap for its demonstrations, casting the agitation in mythological terms.

"This is tandav, Lord Shiva's dance. There is no planning here," Gandhi said. "There is no need for a plan. A dance is going on, Lord Shiva's dance. And anyone can join Shivji ki baraat."

Gandhi directed personal remarks at Kumar, alleging that the poll chief had reached out indirectly and suggesting that the election commissioner ought to step aside or cooperate with opposition allegations. He offered no documentation for these claims, though he asserted that roughly 200 central officials across agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, and the Ministry of External Affairs were covertly passing information to opposition figures.

"Turn approver," Gandhi said in an appeal aimed at the election chief. "You have made a mistake but you are not the mind behind the mistake. We are after the people who are behind what you did."

Security deployment preserves central Delhi order

Despite attempts by opposition cadres to stage disruptive gatherings across diplomatic and judicial zones, Delhi Police and central paramilitary units ensured the capital functioned smoothly. Authorities managed entry points, transit corridors, and select metro gates around Connaught Place to keep daily commuter traffic moving and prevent gridlock around key state institutions.

Gandhi acknowledged the scale of the security operation, noting that between 20,000 and 30,000 personnel had been deployed to maintain peace across sensitive corridors. While the opposition claimed the measures were designed to restrict their gatherings, administrative authorities pointed to the necessity of safeguarding public infrastructure and maintaining strict civic stability in the heart of the national capital.

Ruling party leaders rejected the opposition's claims, describing the march and Gandhi's rhetoric as an attempt to undermine independent constitutional bodies following electoral setbacks.

What happens next at the Supreme Court

The INDIA bloc has indicated it plans to approach the Supreme Court registry directly to seek judicial intervention against the Election Commission's ongoing voter revision drive. Legal representatives for the alliance have prepared submissions requesting an inquiry into administrative decisions overseen by Kumar.

The central government and the Election Commission have maintained that electoral rolls undergo routine, constitutionally mandated verification to ensure voter lists remain accurate, secure, and transparent.
