Opposition demands resignation

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference in New Delhi on Monday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities. Gandhi announced that leaders of the INDIA bloc would march from Connaught Place to the Supreme Court to file a formal petition.

Addressing reporters at the Congress headquarters, Gandhi claimed that around 200 government officials across various agencies were passing information to the opposition. He also claimed he had received messages from the Chief Election Commissioner, urging Kumar to turn approver regarding the administration of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Security measures across central Delhi

To ensure public safety and preserve order in the capital, law enforcement authorities instituted widespread security arrangements across central Delhi. Deployment involving the Delhi Police, Central Reserve Police Force, and Rapid Action Force was positioned at key locations, including Barakhamba Road and Mandi House.

Traffic advisories and precautionary barricades were set up around major intersections to keep vehicular movement orderly. Security personnel monitored key transit points and adjusted access at selected metro stations as part of standard security protocols.

Opposition claims and public order

During his address, Gandhi asserted that half of the deployed security personnel agreed with the opposition's campaign. He criticized the government's protection of election officials while maintaining that resistance against the poll body had grown into a wider public movement.

The planned petition follows earlier communications sent by Congress leadership regarding election administration. Despite the political statements, law enforcement agencies maintained strict control across the capital, ensuring smooth municipal function and preserving order throughout the day.
