TN CM Vijay sanctions ₹71 crore for police stations and honours fallen officers
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has hiked monthly contingency allocations for police stations up to ₹50,000 and distributed insurance aid on Police Commemoration Day.

Institutional boost for state policing
The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order sanctioning ₹71.01 crore to enhance contingency funds across all police stations in the state. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the demand for grants for the Home Department in the Legislative Assembly, aims to meet daily operational needs and enforce administrative transparency.
Under the new structure, police stations have been categorized into three tiers based on reported crime levels. The financial boost significantly increases routine operating budgets to ensure swift and efficient local policing.
| Station category | Previous monthly fund | Revised monthly fund |
|---|---|---|
| Light category | ₹3,750 | ₹30,000 |
| Medium category | ₹6,000 | ₹40,000 |
| Heavy category | ₹8,250 | ₹50,000 |
Honouring sacrifice and supporting families
At a Police Commemoration Day event held on the Police Headquarters campus in Chennai, Chief Minister Vijay paid homage to police officers who died in the line of duty. CM Vijay laid a wreath at the Police Memorial and handed over personal accident insurance sanction orders worth ₹5.96 crore to the families of seven police personnel.
Provided under the Tamil Nadu government's Salary Package Scheme, the assistance supports the families of six personnel who died in the line of duty and one officer currently in a coma. Official records indicate that 154 police personnel across India, including six from Tamil Nadu, lost their lives in service over the past year.
Chief Minister Vijay commended the commitment of the force in maintaining public safety and managing emergency responses, describing the police as a shield for the nation. Senior officials present at the ceremony included Home Secretary A Karthik, Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, and Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A Amalraj.
Strengthening welfare governance through Aadhaar
In a parallel move to reinforce administrative accountability, the Tamil Nadu government issued a formal order mandating Aadhaar identification for the Annan Seer Thittam scheme. The rule aims to streamline beneficiary verification and ensure direct, transparent delivery of state social benefits without leakages.
