Four CRPF personnel injured in accidental Sukma blast
An accidental detonation during a routine disposal operation near a security camp in Chhattisgarh has left four personnel injured, two of them seriously.

How the Sukma blast happened
Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including three officers, have been injured after an explosive went off accidentally during a routine disposal operation in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Thursday.
The accident occurred near Bodrajpadar Nala, a local drain situated about 200 metres from the Elarmadgu security camp. The camp houses the CRPF’s 50th Battalion and is located under the Bheji police station limits in the Konta range.
An Ammunition Technician Team had travelled to the camp from Jagdalpur to inspect various storage sites and safely destroy unserviceable and leftover explosives. While the team was carrying out the demolition under standard safety protocols, a fragment from one of the explosives flew off, landed nearby, and detonated, injuring the personnel standing in the vicinity, police said.
Who was injured
The injured men include members of both the visiting technical team and the local battalion. Assistant Sub-Inspector M K Tiwari of the specialist ammunition team and Assistant Sub-Inspector Anees Khan of the 50th Battalion sustained severe injuries.
Inspector Amarnath Mishra of the technician team and Head Constable Kuldeep Raj of the 50th Battalion escaped with minor injuries.
All four men were given immediate first aid at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the Government Hospital in Konta. While their conditions are stable, local officials said preparations are underway to transfer the two seriously injured officers to a more advanced medical facility if they require specialist treatment.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Mayank Gurjar confirmed that the situation remains under control.
Why explosives are being defused
The Bastar division, where Sukma is located, has seen decades of conflict involving Maoist insurgents. Security forces frequently recover improvised explosive devices (IEDs), landmines, and old ordnance during anti-insurgency patrols.
These recovered explosives are routinely stored at local security camps until specialist ammunition teams can visit to systematically defuse or destroy them, reducing the risk of accidental detonation within the camps.
