Bengaluru-based personalised prescription skincare startup Formial Labs has raised Rs 2.88 crore in pre-seed funding led by Zeropearl VC, backing India's expanding digital health and biotechnology ecosystem.

The early-stage round also drew backing from prominent angel investors, including Aarti Gill, founder of OZiva and Giga Capital, and Arvind Radhakrishnan, director of partnerships at Social Alpha. Several medical practitioners took part, including Dr Sushil Selvarajan, Dr Ashok Ray Chaudhury, Dr Shekhar Neema, and Dr Dipti Thakur.

Formial Labs plans to deploy the capital to scale up its clinical team, expand patient consultation capacity, and enhance proprietary diagnostic and personalisation software. The funding will also support product development across dermatology and hair care, alongside a broader distribution push through the company's digital platform, partner dermatologist clinics, and retail pharmacies.

What Formial Labs does

Founded by Dr Jeet Patel, a physician with training in skin cancer, Formial Labs operates an in-house laboratory that creates custom formulations for patients rather than distributing standard off-the-shelf cosmetics. The platform links clinician consultations with bespoke treatments aimed at addressing specific concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and premature ageing.

The venture combines custom compounding with digital follow-up consultations, allowing clinicians to modify active ingredients and concentrations as a patient's skin responds over time.

India's domestic health-tech landscape has benefited from rapid formalisation, digital adoption, and supportive regulatory frameworks for digital health enterprises. Formial Labs holds LegitScript certifications for both telehealth and pharmacy operations, meeting international compliance benchmarks recognised by global platforms such as Google and Meta for verified healthcare advertising and services.

Growth metrics and clinical trials

Formial Labs reports steady commercial adoption alongside medical validation. The venture has delivered over 5,000 personalised formulations across more than 87 stock-keeping units (SKUs) and records 40 per cent month-on-month growth. Repeat orders now account for 40 per cent of its overall revenue.

To establish clinical rigor, the company has completed two peer-reviewed clinical studies, including a randomised controlled trial evaluating one of its topical formulations. The treatments rely on proprietary base vehicle technology designed to improve the delivery and stability of active compounds.

What happens next

With fresh institutional backing, Formial Labs intends to integrate tailored dermatological treatment into mainstream routine skin health. The company is actively building out its physical and hybrid footprint, partnering with practicing dermatologists across major urban centres to bring compound prescription treatments directly to patients who need supervised clinical care.
