HDFC Bank post-merger integration work largely complete, says incoming CEO Anup Bagchi
The lender records a 4.7 per cent rise in September quarter net profit as top-level leadership transitions take shape.

HDFC Bank has completed the vast majority of its post-merger integration tasks following its July 2023 combination with HDFC Ltd, incoming Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Anup Bagchi said.
Speaking during a post-earnings media interaction, Bagchi noted that while broader balance sheet adjustments and institutional transformation efforts remain underway, the heavy lifting of the integration is now largely behind the institution. Bagchi takes over the leadership role on 27 October, succeeding Sashidhar Jagdishan, who completes his term on 26 October after deciding against seeking a further extension.
Regulatory engagement and operational stability
Bagchi, who currently serves as the chief executive of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and previously held senior executive roles at ICICI Bank, outlined an immediate plan to engage with financial regulators, clients, and internal stakeholders.
"Very near term, I am going to engage with all the regulators, customers, stakeholders," Bagchi said during the call. "I'll gather insights, and that will become a key input to our organizational priorities."
Outgoing chief executive Jagdishan emphasised that the bank operates on strong institutional systems and deep management structures rather than reliance on individual personalities, assuring investors that operational continuity remains intact.
Key executive transitions
The leadership shift comes alongside broader executive changes across the bank's top tier. Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha, who joined HDFC Bank in 1995 and has served on its executive board since June 2014, requested to step down effective 31 December 2026. The bank's board accepted his request during meetings on 16 and 17 October, forwarding the application to the Reserve Bank of India for final regulatory approval.
Central bank regulations cap the continuous tenure of whole-time directors at private lenders at 15 years, a limit Bharucha would have reached in June 2029.
